All About That Alphabet!

Students need an assortment of alphabet manipulatives and games to use for hands-on experience with the shape of letters.

I am currently a 6th grade teacher and will be transitioning to third. I am looking to build a warm, safe, attractive environment suitable for my new third graders. My district is a low income, high needs area. I want my students to feel relaxed and at home. Most of all I want them to be a child that lives the learning experience. Many of my students don’t get to be kids at home. They have siblings to take care of while parents are at work.

Project

Students will use all of these items to have hands-on alphabet experience. They will help enhance current curriculum and turn our basic skills practice into exciting and invigorating activities. The dough stamps and mats will help students with letter identification and word building, the sight word steps can be interchanged with letter cards and picture cards for beginning sounds, the magnetic writing board helps students with letter formation, the smartboard alphabet game can be used whole group or for small groups, the word building game helps students with blending and the other games assist students with letter identification and sounds as well. These activities provide multiple avenues for learning; visual, kinesthetic/tactile, and auditory.
